A new survey has been conducted by the Guardian in which hundreds of the top climate scientists have given their views on the state of the climate crisis. Almost 80% expect global temperatures to rise over 2.5C above pre-industrial levels. The Paris agreemeent in 2015 set out ‘to limit the temperature increase to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels’. Above 1.5C would risk severe climate impacts including droughts, heatwaves and flooding. This in turn would lead to famines, conflicts and mass-migration. And yet here we are, with climate scientists forecasting a rise above 2.5C, and govenrments failing to act with the necessary urgency.
